Who We Are

North Idaho's Trusted Excavation Team

Since 1978, Peck & Peck Excavating has been a family-run company built on hard work, trust, and a commitment to doing things right. What started with J.W. Peck, a track loader, and a dump truck has grown into one of North Idaho's most trusted excavation contractors — serving homeowners, builders, and developers across the region for over four decades.

We built our reputation the old-fashioned way: showing up, doing quality work, and treating every customer like a partner. No shortcuts, no surprises, no runaround.

Our Story

Built on the Bedrock of North Idaho

Peck & Peck Excavating started as most great things do — with a family, a handshake, and a willingness to outwork anyone. J.W. Peck founded the company with hands-on experience and a strong work ethic, starting with cemetery excavation and moving to pool installations and grading work. In the early years, he built the business job by job — earning a reputation for reliability that still defines us today.

Over the years, we expanded from residential work into commercial site development, subdivision and land development, sewer and water infrastructure, and large-scale earthmoving and demolition. When J.W. retired in 2011, Greg Peck took over leadership. Then in 2016, John Rudebaugh joined the team — bringing GPS machine control and modern grading systems that took our precision to a new level.

Today, Greg Peck and John Rudebaugh lead Peck & Peck Excavating together — blending generations of experience with a forward-looking approach to construction. While our foundation is built on decades of field experience, we continue to invest in modern technology and methods to deliver precision, efficiency, and reliability on every project.

Driven by Experience. Powered by Technology.
What We Stand For

Our Values

We Work With You
We don't just show up and dig. We take the time to understand what you're trying to build — then we help you get there. Your project goals are our project goals.
Value Engineering
Decades of field experience means we often see a smarter way to get the same result for less. We'll always tell you when we do — because a better outcome for your project is a win for everyone.
Attention to Detail
The difference between a good job and a great one is in the details. We pay attention to grade elevations, site drainage, and finish work — because what we leave behind matters.
Straight Talk
Honest pricing. No hidden costs. No scope creep. We tell you what the job actually takes — upfront — and we keep you in the loop from start to finish.
Project Closeout
We don't vanish when the hard part is done. We see every job through to a clean, complete finish — because a project isn't done until you're satisfied with what we left behind.
This Is Our Home Too
We live here. Our kids go to school here. We're not a contractor passing through — we're invested in this community for the long haul, same as you.
Why Peck & Peck

What Sets Us Apart

There's no shortage of excavation contractors in North Idaho. Here's why customers keep choosing Peck & Peck — and coming back job after job.

You're Never Out of the Loop
With decades of experience and a full crew on the ground, we have the people and resources to keep your project moving — and you'll always get a real response from someone who knows the job.
We Know This Land
North Idaho soil, terrain, and weather aren't abstract to us — we've been working in it since 1978. That local knowledge prevents problems that out-of-state crews don't see coming.
GPS Precision & Modern Technology
Since 2016, we've invested in advanced GPS machine control and grading systems across our operations. Better technology means better precision, faster timelines, and cleaner results.
Our Reputation Is on Every Job
Our name is on every job we take. Every project reflects directly on our reputation in this community — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

The People Behind the Work

An Experienced Crew You Can Count On

We don't hire warm bodies and hand them the keys to a machine. Our operators are experienced professionals who know their equipment, read a job site, and take ownership of the work they do.

Every member of our crew has been trained to the same standard we hold ourselves to — safety first, quality always, and respect for the property we're working on. When a Peck & Peck crew shows up on your site, you're getting people who care.
